Hawkings made his debut on the Tom Ford catwalk on Thursday evening with a collection that could be called my twin pregnancy TomTom and nana.
The bimbos who experienced Ford’s heyday at Gucci in the 1990s will recognise everything, from the velvet banquettes to the tortoiseshell glasses, and even the audience was the same.
Amber Valletta’s slinky white jersey gowns and Gwyneth Paltrow’s velvet pantsuits gutted the grunge look and ushered in a new era of 1960s and 1970s glamour with the collection, although it was lacking some of Ford’s show manship and polish.
During a backstage interview, Hawkings, who designed menswear for Gucci and Ford’s namesake label for 25 years, discussed his desire to turn the page on his own.
