Overland’s licensed footwear businesses include such brands as Paul Smith, G-Star Raw, Frye, Merrell, Wolverine, CAT, Vilebrequin and Bass & Co.
To be manufactured mainly in Italy using premium leathers and other materials, the shoes will feature design details from Karl Lagerfeld’s ready-to-wear and accessories collections.
No word yet if Choupette, Lagerfeld’s pampered pet cat, might figure in the range.
Karl Lagerfeld Group BV markets collections including ready-to-wear for women, men and children, accessories, bags, watches and eyewear, in addition to the casual men’s wear line Lagerfeld and premium fragrances.
The designer adds many personal touches to his products, recently enlisting his godson Hudson Kroenig, 8, to design a print for his children’s line.
The company recently welcomed a new investor that will help the brand speed its global development. G-III Apparel Group Ltd., the designer’s joint-venture partner for his push into North America with the Karl Lagerfeld Paris label, revealed earlier this year it had taken a 19 percent stake in the group.
The first full women’s collection of clothes and accessories is being backed by a major print and online campaign, lensed by Lagerfeld and featuring models Joan Smalls and Hailey Baldwin, as reported.
Last year G-III forged a joint venture with Lagerfeld to introduce a new Karl Lagerfeld Paris range, initially focused on women’s apparel and handbags, plus men’s outerwear — all positioned in the burgeoning “affordable luxury” category and tailor-made for the North American market.
